  • Key Laboratory of Fundamental Science of National Defense for Advanced Machining Technology

     

    The Key Laboratory of Fundamental Science of National Defense for Advanced Machining Technology of Beijing Institute of Technology was founded in July 2007 when the former National Defense Science and Technology Industry Committee (Science and Technology [2007] No. 662) approved. The laboratory focuses on manufacturing disciplines and is based on the first-level disciplines of mechanical engineering, mechanical electronics, instrument science and technology, and vehicle engineering, which highlights the interdisciplinary features. Focusing on advanced processing theories and methods, closely tracking domestic and international technological development trends, combining the characteristics of national defense and the common needs of R&D and production of Advanced weaponry, it mainly carry out work in four research directions including high-speed precision machining theory and method for military-difficult-to-machine materials; new process theory and equipment technology for micro- and submicron-level special processing; monitoring and inspection technology of processing quality; and measurement technology for profile dimension of complex components. In the laboratory construction and research work, the culture concept is “more efficient, more precise, more reliable, and more accurate” and follows five principles: basic priority, highlighting innovation, strengthening features and system building. At present, the key laboratory has become the domestic first-class and internationally renowned base for experimental research and education which possesses advanced processing technology and new methods for quality inspection.

    The laboratory currently has 45 teaching and research staff, including 1 chief scientist of the "973" project of the Ministry of Science and Technology, 2 chiefs of the national defense "973" technology, 1 national special support plan (10,000 person plan), and 1 Changjiang scholar, 1 top young talents in the group, 1 national outstanding youth, 1 national youth, 1 innovation leader of the Ministry of Education, 1 national youth, 4 new talent from the Ministry of Education, 11 doctoral supervisor, 19 professors and 19 associate professors , which formed an academic echelon with a reasonable age, education, and academic structure. More than 100 scientific research projects such as National Defense 973 have been undertaken, and the total amount of scientific research projects has reached more than 80 million yuan. Among them, defense research projects have reached more than 4,271 million yuan. The lab has won 1Second Prize in China's State Natural Science Award, 2 First Prize in National Defense Science and Technology, 2 Second Prize in National Defense Science and Technology, 1 First Prize in Natural Science of the Ministry of Education, 1 First Prize in Weapon Technology, and 1 in Second Prize, 3Third Prize in Weapon Technology and obtained 2 national defense invention patents and 20 national invention patents.

     

    The key laboratories geared to the needs of the development of high-tech weapons and equipment, and form a platform to support the research and development of the advanced processing technology of the national defense science and technology industry. The laboratory is dedicated to becoming an experimental base promoting the major technological transformation and technological development of national defense science and technology industry, and education base cultivating complex and cross-national defense manufacturing technology talents adapted to the development of economic and technological globalization, in the common technology areas including advanced processing technology for military difficult-to-machine materials, automatic testing and controlling technology for manufacturing process, micro-manufacturing and quality assurance technology. It has reached the international advanced level in the respect of characteristic basic technologies such as high-efficiency precision machining for military hard-to-process materials, acousto-opticinspection, micro-machine manufacturing technology, and ultra-short laser processing technology. In addition, in terms of new technologies such as precision testing and green processing, it has also reached the domestic leading level.
