Prof. Lan Jiang from BIT Elected American Society of Mechanical Engineering Fellow

The list of 2018 American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) Fellow was released recently. Lan Jiang, the professor in School of Mechanical Engineering, Beijing Institute of Technology, has been elected as an ASME Fellow for his pioneering contributions to micro/nano fabrication. The Board of Governors of ASME commented Prof. Jiang in the nomination form that “Dr. Jiang has made significant contributions to Mechanical Engineering in the area of laser micro/nano manufacturing. Beyond the intrinsic scientific values of his research, many of his achievements are groundbreaking as they enable substantial improvements in the quality of practical micro/nanomachining applications. His massive body of research is of very high quality and establishes him as an internationally recognized leader in the field.”

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is a not-for-profit mem-bership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career enrichment and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. Founded in 1880, ASME has grown through the decades to include more than 130,000 members in 151 countries and become one of the most authoritative and influential in-stitute in mechanical engineering and related fields, hosting 30 technical conferences and 200 professional development programs each year. Fellow Grade is the highest elected grade of membership within ASME, the attainment of which recognizes excep-tional engineering achievements and contributions to the engineering profession. The election is rigorous, and the number of winners is supposed to not exceed 1‰ of the total members.
