On December 28, during the Baidu Apollo Open Platform 8.0 release event, the School of Mechanical Engineering announced a collaboration with Baidu Apollo to establish a joint innovation center for intelligent connected vehicles.
The 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party proposed the new trinity of "education, technology, and the talents", which has put forward new requirements and pointed out new directions for talent cultivation. In order to implement the critical spirit of the "trinity" and carry out the deployment of the Beijing Institute of Technology's talent cultivation discussion, the vehicle engineering major is guided by the motto of “Strengthen the foundation, deepen the reform, collaborate to cultivate talent, and achieve excellence”. The vehicle engineering major also actively cooperates with Baidu and other Internet industry top enterprises to strengthen the exploration of new talent cultivation modes, to meet the needs of high-end talent in emerging industries. The joint innovation center is established on the strategic deployment of the "education, technology, and talent" trinity, taking the vehicle engineering major of Beijing Institute of Technology as the foundation, and aiming to cultivate international talents specializing in intelligent connected vehicles through all-round and multi-level training. The center focuses on creating a cross-disciplinary and fusion talent cultivation paradigm for intelligent connected vehicles and electric vehicles, jointly building a virtual teaching and research department for intelligent connected electric vehicles, and co-constructing national planned teaching materials. Through school-enterprise cooperation, talent attraction and combination, and the formation of high-level professional teacher teams, the center deepens the integration of production and education, competition and teaching, and forms a high-quality talent gathering platform relying on innovative practice bases.
During the press conference, Professor Xi Junqiang, the chairman of the Party Committee of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and Zhang Liang, the chief of the Baidu Autonomous Driving Platform Ecology, jointly announced the establishment of the Joint Innovation Center for Intelligent Connected Vehicles. The two partners will strengthen cooperation in cultivating high-level talents in emerging industries, constructing vehicle engineering majors, and building practice bases, and jointly implement the strategy of developing the country through science and education and building a strong nation through talents. Professor Lin Cheng, the professor who is responsible for the major, introduced the outstanding achievements of Beijing Institute of Technology in the construction of "double-leading talents" in vehicle engineering. He also introduced the new demand for cultivating talents in intelligent connected vehicles in the new stage of the automotive industry, and proposed the next stage of ideas for jointly cultivating high-level composite talents in intelligent connected vehicles with Baidu Apollo.
In the future, the School of Mechanical Engineering will work with Baidu Apollo. Both of them will rely on the Joint Innovation Center for Intelligent Connected Vehicles and the virtual teaching research department, to continuously expand the boundaries of capabilities, explore more possibilities for autonomous driving technology and industry with more developers and partners, work together to achieve a new level of prosperity. In addition, the Joint Innovation Center will create a new paradigm for cultivating talents in intelligent connected vehicles, benefiting vehicle engineering major talent cultivation work from different universities.
